Tarifa, to observe up to seven different species of whales and dolphins in their natural environment. Mostly these are Pilot Whales and Bottelnose Dolphins, but from around April to July the Sperm Whale is found there too. Orcas travel by in July and August only, on their way to feed on the tuna caught by Moroccan and Spanish fishermen.

Canary Isles

Although located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa, the Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago.

La Gomera has a licensed whale watching boat which takes you to spot Pilot whales and the rare Beaked whales, and at times Finback, Sei- or Sperm whales are also encountered.

Whale watching: Portugal

The Portuguese Azorean archipelago (just a 2 hour flight from the mainland) is a key European location for whale watching, with a variety of whales and dolphins: one can observe Humpback, Sei, Fin and Blue Whales, as well as Short Finned Pilot Whales and Sperm Whales. The best time is May and June when the whales migrate to their summer feeding grounds.

Whale watching cruises, Isle of Mull, Scotland

The Isle of Mull lies in the Inner Hebrides, the rugged West coast of Britain. In summer it’s the Minke Whale that is enjoyed in these waters, but there’s also harbour porpoises, dolphins, seals, basking sharks, sunfish, and a variety of seabirds. Responsible Travel offer a variety of cruises, starting with a weekend explorer tour (3 days). Boat trips run from Tobermory, on Mull’s north coast.
